Children enter preschool with a sense of wonder and a love of learning. They have an insatiable appetite for knowledge when they have learning experiences that are engaging and enjoyable. Such experiences are not accidental. It is achieved through a deliberate effort of the school in cooperation with that of the home.

One of the fundamental steps towards providing positive learning experience to school children is acquisition and effective implementation of standard curriculum. A standard curriculum is a conglomeration of curricular from different sources. Ever y school must have a conglomeration of curricular from different sources. This bestows rich information and scholarship on the pupils.  An alternative is to acquire a curriculum or syllabus which is a blend of curricular from many sources.

These ones in your hands are widely circulated across the states of Nigeria. It has been in use since 1997 but revised and updated in line with the most recent Nigerian National Curriculum, 2016. It is reviewed to reflect the recent development in the global education community.

About Early Childhood Education in Nigeria

The Nigerian National Policy on Education (NPE) provides that Early Childhood Education (ECC) – also known as Pre-Primary Education or Early Years Foundation Stages – is for children between ages 3 to 5 years old. Typical of Nigerian schools, this level of education is divided into three classes thus:

NOTE: EYF means Early Years Foundation Stage; KG means Kindergarten. The naming of these foundation classes varies from school to school. Some schools use Playgroup (PG) 2 for the Pre-Nursery level to show continuity of Playgroup (1). In this scheme, we use Pre-Nursery, Nursery 1 and Nursery 2.
